●Equipped with underfloor diesel generator-powered air conditioning and other features comparable to express electric trains and diesel railcars of the time, they became the basis for the new passenger cars that appeared later, the 14-series and later.
●Initially operated as special trains and for transporting passengers to the Osaka Expo, and later as regular express trains, they were seen in action all over the country except Hokkaido.
●In later years, they were used in a variety of ways, such as being converted into commuter trains and joy trains, and can still be seen in action today as event trains and passenger cars for special occasions.
