JR Kyushu BEC819 Series 300s + 5300s (Kashii Line) 4-Car
About the actual vehicle
The BEC819 series is the world's first AC battery car developed by JR Kyushu, and was introduced in 2016 (Heisei 28). The vehicle has specifications and performance equivalent to the 817 series, and is also operated in coupled operation. It is characterized by the blue side boarding doors and the blue batteries placed all under the floor of the car.
The 300s are vehicles that were added in 2019 (Heisei 31) when all trains on the Kashii Line were converted to BEC819 series. It is characterized by changes to the shape of the couplers and some AC equipment, and the installation of cameras to monitor boarding and alighting on the sides.
The 5300s are equipped with automatic driving compatible devices and are in use along with the other 300s.

■Equipped with a coreless motor power unit with flywheel
