The E259 Series made its appearance in 2009 as the second generation "Narita Express" connecting Narita Airport and the Tokyo metropolitan area. Starting from 2023, the vehicle design began gradually being changed with the concept of "evolution as the new E259 Series" in mind.
A scale model of the latest streamlined tour express train “Saphir Odoriko” will be released by Kato with the train's logo printed on its sides. "Saphir" is the French word for the blue jewel sapphire.
E261 “Saphir Odoriko” is a new sightseeing limited express, which debuted in March 2020 at the time of train schedule revisions under the new promotional slogan “Experience the real Izu!”
