Tozan Railway

The Hakone Tozan Railway runs between Odawara and Gora, with a maximum gradient of 80‰ (per mille).
The 2000-series St. Moritz was introduced in 1989, with the first and second trains manufactured as two-car formations.
In 1993, intermediate cars were manufactured for each train, making them three-car formations, but in 2004, the intermediate cars were transferred to the 1000-series, returning them to two-car formations.
Since 1999, the second train has been painted to match the carriages of Switzerland's Rhaetian Railway, with which the railway has a sister partnership. In 2014, it was repainted in the Allegra livery to coincide with the start of operation of the 3000-series Allegra, and it is sometimes operated coupled with one 3000-series car to form a three-car formation.
Since the repaint, the headlights have been changed to LEDs and single-arm pantographs have been installed, changing the train's appearance.
