The E217 Series was originally introduced for the Yokosuka and Sobu Rapid Lines, but three trains were converted in 2005 to replace the 113 Series on the Tokaido Line. After that, it was operated until 2015 through equipment renewal conducted from 2008 to 2012, after which it returned to its original Yokosuka Line and Sobu Rapid Line service.

・ Leading cars have head/taillights, destination sign, and train indicator lights except for car 11 (KuHa E216-1003); car 10 (KuHa
E17-3) has a light-off switch.
・ The intermediate couplings are equipped with body-mounted KATO couplers (with hooks) by default. The leading cars (No.1
and No.15) have dummy couplers with electric couplers, while No.10 and No.11 have couplers without hooks. single-stage
electric coupler included.
・ The use of slotless motors ensures a Smooth and quiet running performance. The power car of the attached train (Car No. 13:
MoHa E217-2006) is not equipped with traction tires.
・ Destination display stickers are included, featuring destination stickers for the "120th Anniversary of
Full Operation between Shinbashi and Kobe" headmark and the "120th Anniversary of Opening between
Yokohama and Kozu“headmark (including base parts).
