JR 223-1000 Series Commuter Train
The 223-1000 series is a commuter train from JR West that was introduced in 1995 and was assigned to the Limited Express service during the recovery period following the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
The leading car, following the 221 series, features a streamlined front end with large curved glass, and its maximum speed is increased to 130 km/h to accommodate the increased speed of the Limited Express service.
Since its introduction, it has been in service on the Tokaido Main Line and Sanyo Main Line, and in later years the lower skirts of the leading cars have been extended.
