Series E4 Shinkansen “ Max”, which was developed as a full double decker bullet train in 1994, is unique with its long nose design sticking out the top part. The driver’s cabin is made in a canopy form like an air plane pursuing the optimal aerodynamics.
■Series E4 Shinkansen was introduced in 1994 as the second all-double-decker Shinkansen after the Series E1. The trains were basically 8-car trains, but were also operated as 16-car trains by combining two trains, and were operated not only with Series E4 trains but also with Series E3 Yamagata Shinkansen "TSUBASA". Since the introduction of the Series E5, the trains have been operated mainly on the Joetsu Shinkansen, and the belt color was changed from yellow to pink in 2014. The service ended on October, 2021, much to the regret of many people.
◆Series E4 can be combined with the Series E3 (TSUBASA) and Series E4 (Max Toki) to recreate different scenes from different eras.
①The prototype is the P7 set that belonged to the Sendai General Train Yard around 2007. KATO will release the set with different car number from the previous product (10-292/293), as a full set of 8 cars.
②Newly created stickers that include notations on the outside of the train body that vary depending on the era, destinations, and seat indicators by the green car doors.
③The streamlined body shape and beautiful coloring of the real car are reproduced to the fullest extent.
④The lead cars can be connected to each other.
⑤The power unit with flywheel provides stable running.
