KUHA 68400 was put in Kato’s lineup three times in the Ida Line series, and those are all the versions converted from KUHA 55 with 5 windows between doors. The model on the production plan is to be modified from the original KUHA 68 with 6 windows between doors. Besides it is different in that it has 7 ventilators and the layout of mechanism under the floor. The display of operation number on the front side on either car is now made like a clear glass plate.

Different from already available models, KUMOHAYUNI will be reproduced with cab windows with wood flames before change into rubber frames and with glass panes equipped with defrosters. The model will be sold in a two car set with KUHA 88420, which was almost regularly coupled with KUMOHAYUNI 6400 at that time. The display of operation number on the front side on either car is now made like a clear glass plate.

Iida Line
Until 1983, Iida Line was operated still using the good old JR electric trains and electric locomotives and became a focus of train fans attention as a treasure house of nostalgic JR rolling stock. This line is still now very popular among railway enthusiasts and tourists with scenic landscape which is viewed from the windows as the railway runs along the steep valley carved by Tenryu River. The railway came into existence by nationalizing and merging four former private railways, which are connected to each other, after the war. For this reason, it is characterized with very short distances between stations for a local line of the former JR, dotted with as many as 94 stations, including the two terminals, in the full track length of 195.7 kms.
Kato’s Iida Line series is to help create the scenes along the former JR’s Iida Line. As the series 3, we will release electric freight cars KUMONI 83 and KUMONI 13 as well as coaches KUMOHA 54 and KUHA 68 to make a standard consist.
