E721 Series
We are releasing a model of the E721 series, which operates on AC-electrified lines in the Southern Tohoku region of JR East.
This series was introduced in 2007 to modernize the fleet at JR East's Sendai Depot and to serve the Sendai Airport Access Line.
Designed to align with the low platforms found on regional lines, the train features a low-floor body structure utilizing small-diameter wheels, achieving a barrier-free design with no steps at the entrances.
In addition to the earlier 0-series and 500-series (2-car sets), the 4-car fixed-formation 1000-series debuted in 2016; the series encompasses a wide range of variations when including vehicles owned by third-sector railway companies that share the same manufacturer and basic design.
The 6-car set models the P-7 (0-series) and P4-11 (1000-series) sets belonging to the Sendai Rolling Stock Center, neither of which features "One-Man Operation" indicators next to the doors. Underfloor equipment—such as bogies and skirts—is reproduced in gray for the 0-series and blue-gray for the 1000-series.
The distinct stripe colors for each series are beautifully reproduced (0-series: green, white, and red; 1000-series: green, white, and pink), with car numbers, depot markings, and car designations pre-printed.
The difference in size of the passenger window opposite the restroom—which varies by series—is accurately reproduced.
Headlights and taillights are illuminated (with an off-switch); all cars feature four illuminated headlights.
The PS109 pantograph (round-pipe type) has been newly created for this model.

Bogies are the DT72/TR256 types designed for low-floor vehicles; like the actual train, they utilize small-diameter wheels (φ5.2mm) and realistically reproduce the prototype's 2,100mm axle spacing. Snow plows are pre-installed.
Equipped with a slotless motor for smooth and quiet operation; a demagnetization plate is pre-installed.
For the 2-car and 4-car sets, the leading ends of the lead cars are fitted with dummy couplers featuring coupler covers. In the 6-car set, the Kuha E720-7 and Kumoha E721-1011 feature dummy couplers with covers, while the Kumoha E721-7 and Kuha E720-1011 are fitted with coupling-compatible skirts and coupler covers.
The coupling-compatible couplers at the leading ends allow for coupled operation with the 701 series. Body-mounted close couplers (hookless type) are used for intermediate connections.
The skirts accurately reproduce the differences in inspection hatch placement between the Kumoha E721 and Kuha E720, as well as the presence or absence of hatches depending on the sub-series.
The front destination display is pre-set to "Sendai"; replacement displays for "Shin-Shirakawa" and a blank option are included, along with destination display stickers.
