[Actual vehicle introduction]
The first AE Skyliner was Japan's first airport liaison express train manufactured for access to New Tokyo International Airport, and from 1972 to 1978, seven 6-car trains were manufactured.
The model "AE" is an acronym for Airport Express, and the nickname "Skyliner" was decided by open recruitment.
The latest technologies of the time, such as one-handle mascon, constant-speed driving device, and regenerative braking, were introduced and won the 1974 Blue Ribbon Award.
Initially it was painted with maroon and cream, but from 1983 it was changed to painting with the image of an aircraft with red and blue bands.
After the appearance of the second generation Skyliner AE100 type that appeared in 1990, it was recombined into an 8-car train and was active until June 1993.
