JR EF66-100 electric locomotive (late model)
The EF66-100 series is a DC electric locomotive manufactured in 33 units from 1989 to accommodate the increased demand for freight transport after the privatization of the Japanese National Railways.
While its basic performance is the same as that of the EF66-0 series, the body shape has been significantly changed, with the head and tail lights now arranged side-by-side under the front window, and the paint has become JR Freight's standard color, resulting in a significant change in appearance from the EF66-0 series.
From the 109th unit onwards, the head and tail lights have become square, and a blue stripe has been added to the bottom of the body, resulting in a change in appearance.
Even after the introduction of the EF210 series, it was still used to pull freight trains, mainly on the Tokaido and Sanyo main lines, but it is currently being replaced by the EF210-300 series, mainly the earlier model equipped with round lights.
