Special Release: KiHa 147 Series Diesel Car Set (Hitahikosan Line BRT "Hikoboshi Line" Livery)
The KiHa 147 series consists of vehicles derived from the KiHa 47 series (0 and 1000番代/sub-series) inherited by JR Kyushu; starting around 1989, these units underwent engine upgrades aimed at increasing operational speeds on routes such as the Sasaguri Line and Kyudai Main Line.
Many of these vehicles retain the louvers on the forward section of the car body sides—a key visual distinction from the similarly engine-upgraded KiHa 47 series 8000 and 9000 sub-series.
As of 2024, the fleet is primarily concentrated at the Nogata Rolling Stock Center and operates on the Gotōji Line and Hitahikosan Line.
To commemorate the August 2023 opening of the Hitahikosan Line BRT "Hikoboshi Line," wrapped trains featuring the BRT Hikoboshi Line logo and line colors have been in operation since January 2024. ● High-Grade (HG) specification
