In 1999, in line with the revival of C57-180, 12 series and 6 cars were given exclusive painting and in-vehicle improvement and appeared as exclusive cars for "Banetsu Monogatari".
The observation car Oh 12-1701 was added in 2000 and it became 7 cars.
It was changed to the new paint of vermilion and cream in 2007, and it was active to the green car consolidation in 2013 and the paint change in 2014.
