JR Chiki 5500 type freight car (JR West Japan specification) set
The Tiki 5500 type is a freight car that appeared in 1974 as a freight car for long rail transportation, and was produced by modifying the Koki 5500 type, which had a tendency to be surplus due to problems with loading efficiency at the time.
When JNR was privatized, it was inherited by all JR companies except Hokkaido and Shikoku.
The group inherited by JR Freight is a vehicle compatible with 50m rail, and is used in sets of 3 cars.
The same type of trains owned by JR passenger companies are compatible with long rail transportation of around 200m, and are used in formations of 10 to 13 cars.
It was replaced by diesel cars at JR East and Tokai and retired, and is currently active in JR West and Kyushu.
