KATO HC Product Scheduled for Release in November 2026
KATO 3077-H EF10 24 (Kanmon Type)
We are releasing a model of the EF10 24, a unique, unpainted stainless-steel locomotive that saw active service in the Kanmon Tunnel.
Among the EF10 locomotives assigned to the Moji Engine Depot for operations in the Kanmon Tunnel, five units had their body panels replaced with stainless steel in 1953 as a measure against salt damage; Unit 24, in particular, stood out by remaining unpainted.
It was widely used to haul both passenger and freight trains and remained in service until it was replaced by the EF30 in 1961. Following its replacement, it was transferred to the Shin-Tsurumi Engine Depot, repainted in "Grape No. 2" brown, and continued its service.
