D51 HO Series .

The D51 was the most produced locomotive by the Japanese National Railways and JR, and was active throughout the country due to its performance that allowed it to be operated on low-standard lines (Otsu lines). It is a type that can be said to be synonymous with steam locomotives, and is still popular today with the nickname "Degoichi." It was used as the main locomotive on non-electrified sections from before the war to the mid-Showa period, and a major feature is that it has different appearances despite being the same type, with various equipment being installed in each locomotive depot reflecting the climate and operating conditions all over the country.
