THE ROYAL EXPRESS is a cruise train that debuted in 2017, connecting the Tokyo metropolitan area and Izu. It was created by modifying the Izu Kyuko 2100 series 5th generation train, "Alpha Resort 21". The exterior is based on royal blue with gold stripes and logos, and the interior uses plenty of warm natural materials and glass to enhance the sense of openness, creating a nostalgic yet new classic space that evokes "a journey of beauty and sparkle." It normally operates between Yokohama and Izukyu-Shimoda, with Tokyu Corporation operating the service and the railway companies operating in the respective sections. Since 2020, the operating area has been expanded, and it now runs for a limited time in Hokkaido, Shikoku, and the Tokai area. In Hokkaido and Shikoku, cars 2, 3, and 7 are omitted, shortening the train to 5 cars. It is also operated as a 6-car train with a power car, pulled by a locomotive. Unlike other cruise trains, a distinctive feature of this train is that it does not have accommodation facilities on the train cars themselves.
