The "Super Yakumo" was introduced in 1994 as an express train on the Hakubi Line's "Yakumo" limited express. Unlike the 381 series "Yakumo", it was upgraded with a panoramic front car for green cars and wider seat pitch for ordinary cars. The body is a light purple base with three stripes, and the front and sides of each leading car have the words "SUPER YAKUMO 381" and "WEST JAPAN RAILWAY COMPANY SUPER YAKUMO" written in red. The number of cars was increased or decreased depending on the busy and slow seasons, and the train was used in a variety of ways, including being mixed with green "Yakumo" trains and operated as regular "Yakumo" trains.
The 211-5000 series was introduced in 1988 as a replacement for the 103 and 113 series, which were used by JR Central for commuter and suburban transport. The 5000 series was introduced to suit JR Central's transport needs, with each train consisting of three or four cars, and was often coupled together depending on demand. Unlike the same model used in the Shizuoka area of the Tokaido Main Line, the 211-5000 series features a leading car with a toilet and intermediate trailer cars.
