The Kintetsu 3220 Series was introduced in March 2000 as the first of Kintetsu's next-generation "Series 21" trains.
This train is compatible with the Kyoto Line, Kashihara Line, and the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line, and is the first Kintetsu standard train to feature an IGBT VVVF inverter control system.
The "Series 21" was developed with the theme of "People-Friendly, Earth-Friendly," as a 21st-century standard train that takes barrier-free access, environmental issues, and resource conservation into consideration. It also offers improved running performance, reduced maintenance, and reduced costs. It received the Laurel Prize in 2001.
