Nankai 10000 Series Southern
About the actual train
The Nankai 10000 Series was introduced in 1985 (Showa 60) as a reserved seat express train "Southern" on the Nankai Main Line. Initially, it was a two-car train with only a leading car and was painted in shades of green, but in 1992 (Heisei 4) it was converted to a four-car train and repainted with a new paint scheme based on silver metallic.
When it was converted to a four-car train, the composition was changed to one with the original leading car converted into an intermediate car and one with a newly built intermediate car, so there are differences in the composition.
Currently, it is operated with a train with unreserved seating cars, but until October 2009 (Heisei 21), the all-reserved seat "Southern" was operated with a 4+4 eight-car train.
