Oigawa Railway's New Face: The 6000 Series

The Oigawa Railway 6000 series is a new type of train that began commercial operation on December 30, 2024.

Two cars, Kuha 6905 and Moha 6016, were transferred from Nankai Electric Railway. While safety devices suitable for the Oigawa Railway were installed and obstacle deflectors (skirts) were fitted, the blue and orange stripe color scheme remains unchanged from before the transfer.

These 20-meter-long commuter trains debuted in 1962 as all-stainless steel cars manufactured by Tokyu Car Corporation (now Japan Transport Engineering Company) in a technical partnership with the American Budd Company. They are characterized by their unpainted corrugated body (at the time of their introduction), uniquely shaped ventilators, and Pioneer III bogies. A total of 72 cars were manufactured, and even now, more than 60 years after their manufacture, 20 cars continue to run on the Nankai Electric Railway Koya Line.
