103 Series 1500 Series, Revived JNR Livery, 3-Car Set
● These vehicles were newly manufactured in 1982 for the electrification of the Chikuhi Line and Karatsu Line, as well as for direct service with the Fukuoka Municipal Subway, which began the following year.
● While the running equipment is primarily similar to that of the 103 Series 1000 and 1200, the body structure is closer to that of the 201 Series and 105 Series, making them unique among the 103 Series.
● When first introduced, the livery was light blue with ivory stripes.
● Skirts were installed from the late 1980s, and in the mid-1990s the livery was changed to a metallic gray base with red and yellow accents.
● Additionally, in consideration of operational efficiency at terminal sections, some trains were modified in 1989 to include a driver's cab in the middle car, allowing them to be split from a 6-car fixed formation into a 3+3 car formation.
●Since around 2003, the livery has been changed back to that of the 303 series, and additional toilets have been installed in response to legal changes.
●In August 2023, one three-car train was repainted in the original JNR livery, which caused quite a stir.
