JR Class EF510-500 Electric Locomotive ("Hokutosei" Livery)

The Class EF510-500 is an AC/DC electric locomotive introduced in 2009 to replace the Class EF81 locomotives stationed at JR East's Tabata Depot, which had been hauling the "Hokutosei" and "Cassiopeia" sleeper limited express trains as well as freight trains.
A total of 15 units were produced: 13 in the "Hokutosei" livery (blue body with a gold stripe and shooting star motif on the side) and two in the "Cassiopeia" livery (silver body with a five-colored shooting star motif on the side). They entered service in 2010, but following the discontinuation of regular operations for the "Hokutosei" and "Cassiopeia," all units were transferred to JR Freight by 2016.
