JR Old Passenger Car (Gunma Rolling Stock Center) Set
In contrast to passenger cars used in train formations from the 20-series sleeping cars onward, passenger cars used individually, as in the past, are commonly referred to as old-style passenger cars. Many were scrapped by the end of the JNR era, but some were retained by JR and private railways for events.
The old-style passenger cars at Gunma Rolling Stock Center have undergone renovations, including the addition of remote door locking. In 2022, Suhafu 42 2173 was converted into a lounge car, Suhafu 42 2234 was painted blue, and the interiors of all cars, except for Suhafu 32 and Ohani 36, were redesigned with a woodgrain finish.
Currently, these cars are primarily used for special trains within the JR East area, but may also operate on other private railways.

●Each car features different door shapes and toilet/bathroom windows
●Roof ventilators are reproduced in black
●Canopy frames are reproduced in gray
●Includes reflector parts for use during out-of-service travel
●Car numbers are printed
●Taillight-equipped cars (Ohani 36, Suha 32, SuhaFu 42) are equipped with a constant-light board on the conductor's side and an ON-OFF switch
●New current collection system and black wheels
